The Old One
He is here when I am writing about the Vampires. I have other projects so my life is not a straight line but the beautiful zig zag that Tesla loved.
He is old.
His clothes feel heavy, velvets and corduroys, browns, greens, gems from another time adorn him. I don’t see Him, just the feeling I get.
His power takes up the room and I can feel him watching every word yet I don’t feel danger just watched. Not in the way camera’s watch us but watched from a soul level - it’s a different vibe and you’ve felt it yourself at times but it’s hard to put a name to.
As a writer, characters will always take up space in your mind but He does not. I only feel or think about Him when I’m writing.
Not a ghost …no that would be too wimpy of a description more like a barometric pressure drop that invades all your senses.
It becomes a crowded event and it’s hard to even write a single word without feeling a kinship to Anne Rice, a respect for the conviction she had.
Tonight I will handwrite. It’s slow going but the old world (handwriting) is richer than the digital world and there is a slowness that happens which is in contrast to the wicked fast pace of our society.
It’s then I can feel them.
I have a new character, Eartha Atlantica who is an ancient Vampire from the Atlas Mountains. She is not crazy about how we are treating the earth or women. Her voice will be the loudest in Book 4 of the Vampire Series.
I watched endless interviews with Anne Rice and loved when she said she felt The Lion whisper into her ear while writing. During one of my books I felt her whisper into my ear - so life is a circle indeed.
I’m the oddest candidate for this kind of writing as the whole goth and horror genre is not my background but I do feel there is more to the story to be told.
I will have more encounters with Louis and The Lion here in San Francisco on my turf.
The themes I love are not blood and lust but spirituality - the light and dark - the contrasts- and I do not go into these dark places unprotected or stay very long. Just enough to tell a story and be thankful to not be enemies with any of my subject matters but hold them all in reverence while I’m working.
